Casting off!

Hello friends!

You may have noticed it’s been quiet around here for a while. It seems like things usually sort of fade out at the end, but I hate loose ends and I wanted to tie things off, as it were.

The BIPOC Makers Project started in 2019 as a response to the conversations about antiracism happening in the fiber arts community, with the goal to uplift makers of color, specifically those who own small businesses. Small businesses are an important way that communities can build wealth, particularly generational wealth, and by supporting small businesses, you’re helping communities of color build that wealth.

I feel like we were pretty successful in that goal over the past few years. We’ve featured more than 100 makers through our blog posts and #JulytoDyeFor series, and probably a bunch more through incidental reposts and sharing. There have been some bumps, but I hope we handled them gracefully, and I am grateful for all the support and lovely messages from people who appreciated the work that we did, and for the opportunity to get to know so many awesome makers who allowed us to share their work and their stories.

This blog will stay up, as will our instagram account @bipocmakers. As far as I’m aware, all of the ~900 accounts that account follows are either makers of color, or accounts that highlight the contributions of people of color, but there are certainly many more people out there making beautiful things who could use your support. The accounts listed below are also focused on supporting bipoc/bbimp folks, so I encourage you to check them out too.
